This role is a for a H&S professional looking for the next step in their career. The role will be mentored and further training is offered with this role, but you will need to demonstrate appropriate underlying SKEB to hit the ground running as an active member of the team from day one. Core competence it required in H&S but there will be significant cross over into supporting the management and maintenance of the company IMS as part of the role.
This is a progression role that would suit you if you are already qualified and are now looking to develop your skills and experience. It requires a capable team player who is highly organised and can confidently and deftly engage at all levels internally and externally but is also looking to develop their career to becoming a QHSE Manager. This is a busy role and you will be challenged to go the extra mile but it is also rewarding and you will be part of a highly experienced and engaged team who will want to see you succeed. You will need to demonstrate a pragmatic level headed approach with knowledge that is grounded with common sense. For the right candidate, long term career progression is assured.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of construction contractor experience (preferably in a construction site based QHSE / compliance role).
- Experience of assisting with and/or auditing the set up and managing of sites as Principal Contractor (CDM2015).
- Qualified with NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equal minimum. QHSE Graduate preferred.
- Excellent IT literacy and fully familiar with MS Office applications (Outlook/Word/Excel/Powerpoint).
- Highly organised, good with paperwork and writing, and having excellent time management skills.
- Solution focused with grounded construction operations knowledge – preferably in commercial HVAC and/or fit-out construction.
- Capable of devising logical and practicable solutions and procedures to overcome problems and ensure continuous improvement is achieved across the business.
- Willing to take on tasks proactively themselves where necessary to solve problems and progress the task in a timely manner. (For clarity, this is NOT a hands-off advisor/auditor ‘do as I say / show me’ position, it is also a front line producing/doing ‘active contributor’ role to support the team in closing out their actions).
Desirable Skills:
- Building Safety Act 2022: Having the right SKEB to meaningfully support, and evidence of competence (ongoing CPD record) in respect of understanding and assisting contractor and/or design teams in discharging their duties under Building Safety Act 2022 is ideal.
- Q&E: Previous auditing experience for integrated ISO Management Systems is ideal. Ideally familiar with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
- Experience using Procore or SimPro digital platforms.
Duties:
- To help ensure company compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
- To carry out impartial Health Safety and Environmental auditing and reporting on company/customer sites to identify any non-compliance and subsequently assist with and guide the close out of actions needed to ensure compliance.
- To pro-actively assist our teams in ensuring regulatory compliance across all company sites. This is not a hands-off advisory position, it is to pro-actively assist delivery teams in consistently achieving compliance.
- To assist with the auditing and maintenance of the company IMS and ensure effective implementation is maintained.
- To assist the QHSE Manager in IMS maintenance, reviews, and continuous improvement activities, including but not limited to assisting with closing out NCRs and trend analysis.
- To assist auditing of IMS management systems to planned frequencies, taking appropriate actions to correct deficiencies and maintain compliance with established standards.
- To manage personnel training records and organise QHSE and CPD training as/when required.
- To proactively support the team in planning stages of tasks/projects, assisting in producing documentation where necessary. From time to time this may include producing RAMS, Construction Phase Plans, Induction and toolbox talk content etc to assist the team however required in this regard.
- To ensure all QHSE systems and documentation are kept up to date and relevant. Assist with annual review of these documents.
- Assist with maintaining all Company accreditations, and the task of preparing for and presenting the company properly to various third party auditors for these as required. Ensure all necessary evidence is in place and to ensure close out of any shortcomings that may be identified at audit.
- To assist completion of customer prequalification questionnaires and support bids in QHSE matters.
- To assist with new sub-contractor/supplier approval process and their annual reviews.
- To assist with accident and incident investigations and maintain company records and statistics of the same.
- To help ensure the company position on QHSE matters is always defendable if called upon.
- To maintain knowledge of current regulations and codes of practice etc, help disseminate updates to the team.
- To report help produce safety bulletins and toolbox talks where required. Ensure thorough records of the roll out of these are kept.
- Anything else that may from time to time reasonably be required when working as part of a small team.
Authority:
- This role reports directly to the QHSE Manager.
- This role has the authority to stop works without notice wherever it is necessary to do so in order to ensure health and safety of persons and/or property.
