New dash cams for the Kimpton fleet

At Kimpton, we pride ourselves on our safety-first approach in everything we do. In the organisational values that the business has been built upon, it underpins them all, as we consider safety to be 100% mission-critical.

And as we work through the business looking for ways to make it a safer place for our team to operate, it became clear that our field engineers were always at some risk, with them being “out on the road”. So, after some consultation and a good look at what gave them the best protection, we have just fitted dash cams to our entire fleet of vans.

The chosen system has the widest field of view of almost any of the systems available, giving a full 170 degrees of cover. Recording is in full 1080p high definition and they work well in poor light conditions. It’s even equipped with a g sensor system to ensure in the case of a bump, any footage is locked in as well as being date and time stamped with its GPS position.

But again, that wasn’t enough for us either, so we went a stage further.

Some of our ‘higher risk’ drivers have been given advanced driver training to improve their hazard perception, speed awareness and understanding of the risks they can avoid. All of this has been delivered by a police improved instructor.

Driver Safety Training at Kimpton

These are all small steps in a much bigger policy of driving safety into the business at every level. I’m sure in the tens of thousands of miles our teams cover in a given year, there will be some amusing footage gathered. So watch this space and expect our own version of ‘You’ve been Framed – the Kimpton Edition’ at some point in the next year.
