Three-tiered work experience programme

We have long believed that work experience is a great thing for young people and ourselves. We’re currently welcoming students covering all three tiers of the education system. We’re proud to welcome Max Granton, Elliot Cunningham, and Kathiresan Kannan, each bringing their own skills and enthusiasm to the team.

Max Granton, a GCSE student from Pensby High School, is currently undertaking a week-long work experience placement with Kimpton’s estimating team. Max is gaining insights into how multi-million pound projects are priced, alongside a hands-on project to design a heating system for his own house. Reflecting on his experience so far, Max shares, “I’ve really enjoyed getting to meet different people from different areas of the company and see how their work all fits together.”

Elliot Cunningham, a T-Level Building Services Engineering student from Wirral Met College, joins Kimpton every Tuesday during term time as part of his two-year work experience placement. Split between the Estimating team and the specialist team working on large-scale Residential, Student Accommodation and Build to Rent schemes, Elliot is gaining practical experience in planning and managing projects, with the goal of progressing to a degree apprenticeship. Elliot said, “Since starting my T-Level placement, I’ve been given the opportunity to visit several sites and see how the type of work I’ve been doing translates to onsite.”

Wirral Met College commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with Kimpton for delivering T-levels at Wirral Met College. Elliot is our first T-level student to be placed with Kimpton. Elliot is now just 5 days into the 45 day T-level placement and already he has carried out project tasks with the Kimpton Contract Management Team. The industrial placement is the USP of the T level programme. It opens up real life experience for students like Elliot. Employers make close links with colleges and access a whole new group of young people to work with. It is a great opportunity for employers and colleges to collaborate in developing curriculums fit for the needs of industry. Working with Kimpton we are confident Elliot will experience a broad and high quality experience that will help him making decisions about his future in the building services industry.”

Kathiresan Kannan, pursuing an MSc in International Business and Data Analytics Management at Wrexham University, has commenced a 12-week marketing internship within Kimpton’s Business Development Team. Kathiresan’s role involves conducting market research and spearheading targeted marketing campaigns. Sharing his excitement about the opportunity, Kathiresan states, “I’m in the right place to advance my career since they provide me with the tools I need to learn new things and maximise my opportunities to do so. It’s a great place to work.”

We are delighted to have developed this new partnership with Kimpton and look forward to our continued relationship developing the workforce of tomorrow.”

With a national skills shortage of Engineers, we’ve been working with the LCR Careers Hub to encourage more girls and young people from all backgrounds to join the worldwide push for net zero by pursuing a career in building services engineering. No-one is getting there without Engineers.”
