The City of Liverpool College Air Conditioning Maintenance contract win

We’re absolutely over the moon to announce that our Service & FM Division have been appointed by The City of Liverpool College for the maintenance of the air conditioning systems across all five campuses.

The College has been an important training partner for Kimpton for many years and we’re delighted to now be working with them as a client.

Back in 2019 we undertook a fundamental review of how we recruit and realised that, like many businesses in our industry, our apprentices were largely school leavers from our own social networks. Apart from not being inclusive, this meant that we were missing out on some amazing talented young people from across the Liverpool City Region.

We now target our apprenticeship recruitment to students that have studied a Plumbing or Electrical Level 3 Technical Diploma at the excellent vocational colleges in the region and it’s transformed our apprenticeship programme for the better!

Our candidates are now more engaged, more mature and have the skills and training they need to be a valuable and productive member of the team from day one. This means we’re now able to support three times the amount of apprentices we could previously with over 15% of our workforce now apprentices following both Craft and Technical pathways.

We currently have 8 apprentices training at The City of Liverpool College and regularly support their employer engagement events. This relationship, and the added value it provides the college, was assessed in the 10% social value element of the tender exercise where we scored full marks.
Some of the apprentices we have training at the College will now also get to carry out maintenance work on the college campuses.

The five campuses are located in the heart of the city, offering real-world, state-of-the-art facilities for a great learning experience. Each of the different campuses has its own unique feel and dedicated social and study spaces, all of which need heating and cooling.

There’s a mix of manufacturers too, with units from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric Europe BV, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Daikin Comfort and more. There’s even a mix of gases covering the newest R32 units and the slightly older R410A units.

Air Conditioning maintenance goes right back to the very roots of the Kimpton business. In 1970, our Air Conditioning Division was established to install and maintain HVAC systems across the region. Whilst the systems and the gases have changed, the level of expertise within the team continues to grow and today we have one of the most experienced teams in the region.

This award cements our position in the Further Education sector taking our total to half of the excellent vocational colleges across the region as The City of Liverpool College joins Warrington & Vale Royal College and St Helens College in being cared for by the Kimpton team.
