Plumber, beekeeper, model and entertainer

There’s a full day at work and then there’s Keith Marsden’s day at work. Today he’s been working with our good friends at Incredible Edible to extend the irrigation system we installed previously. It wasn’t just a case of multi-tasking, but rather completely changing role, four times during the day.

It started when Keith was innocently drilling a hole through a wall to feed new pipework at the Knowsley based charity. The bees that had made their home in the roof space took something of an exception to the noise and started dive bombing poor Keith.

Talking about the incident, Keith said. ” I couldn’t quite believe it. They must have taken offence to the vibration, but I was suddenly surrounded. I gave them a chance to calm down and then came back in to drill the second hole. By this time they were even more angry and started flying straight at me in formation”

Rather than be put off and retire hurt, Keith donned a beekeepers outfit and firstly drilled the remaining holes needed, and then with this complete, helped relocate the swarm to a new home in Sefton Park, with the additional help of a local beekeeping expert.

In the words of Karen Mower of Incredible Edibles,

“Today has been amazing. Keith has been a plumber, beekeeper, model and entertainer. He arrived on site as a plumber, soon had to change into the beekeeper and then had great fun modelling the outfit and has kept us entertained all day with his jokes and stories.”

We’ll show more about the project soon, but in the meantime, here’s some pics of Keith the beekeeper.
