Solar PV Expansion at Kimpton

Background

Kimpton were early adopters of Solar PV technology, having had an array fitted back in 2012. This covered an area of 65m2 of roof space and was fitted with 10kWpk of Solar PV Panels. At the time, and with current prices for 20912, payback was estimated as seven years.

Things have changed since then however and electricity prices have only gone upwards and the price and power produced by modern PV panels has only got better.

You can see the old system here.

With any Solar PV system, it will always work better if you lower your consumption first, to ensure you reduce the demand for electricity, before you increase the supply. In this case, it meant updated PIR controlled LED lighting throughout the open plan offices, corridors, kitchen areas and WC’s.

Design and Installation

The new system specified was a 32kWp system that was designed to produce around 26,670 kWh per year from 89.8 sq metre of panels. In this case it was made up of 46 panels. It would also reduce Co2 emissions per year by over 5 tonnes.

The new system sat alongside the old.

The finished job was delivered and fully commissioned in time for the spring uplift in power as the sun begins to shine more strongly through the spring and summer months.

The best time to fit Solar PV is always NOW.

Even on dull days, the system will provide the base of your power consumption for your office or workshop.

And working up on the roof will always give you a view you’re not expecting.
