Phase One Completion: Central Quays, Cardiff

Kimpton is pleased to mark the completion of phase one at Central Quay in Cardiff, where our High-Rise Residential MEP team has delivered a major heating, ventilation and plumbing installation for one of the city’s most significant build to rent developments.

Located on the former Brains Brewery site and led by Watkin Jones Group, Central Quay comprises two 28 storey and 24 storey towers delivering 718 apartments, together with a concierge, lobby, gym, gardens, roof terraces and almost 20,000 sq ft of leisure and retail space.

Kimpton completed a £6.7m MEP package designed to support both the quality of the development and its wider sustainability objectives.

At Central Quay, the approach has been focused on long-term performance, supporting modern residential living while helping to improve operational efficiency across apartments and shared spaces.

The installation includes 200-litre internal heat pump cylinders to improve efficiency and reduce water waste, alongside a ventilation strategy combining multi-extract and heat recovery systems to maximise energy performance throughout the scheme.

With high-quality apartments and facilities designed for long-term occupation, the heating, hot water and ventilation solutions needed to be practical, reliable and future-ready. Kimpton’s specialist residential MEP team was appointed to deliver a solution that matched those requirements.

Fire safety has also been a critical part of the installation. The riser and sprinkler system, connected to a reinforced GRP tank and pump set, is capable of delivering 740 litres of water per minute to provide robust fire control across the towers.

At Central Quay, the high-end apartments and facilities feature some very high-tech heating, ventilation and hot water solutions, way above the norm for the BTR sector. This development is best-in-class and we are proud to be playing our part in delivering it.
