Kimpton Energy Solutions have secured a £1.8m Design and Build Mechanical contract for Hollis Croft Student Development, in the heart of the city centre, Sheffield. The location, just off Broad lane is one of the few areas designated for tall buildings and will house a new student accommodation hub with nearly 1,000 beds across three sites.
The Kimpton contracts are for The Site Three Tower and the smaller Site One. The Tower, which is a 19 storey building that will accommodate 603 beds, will offer students an amazing view across the city in one direction and the Peak District in the other. The design, by architects HLM Sheffield accommodates studio apartments, one bedroom apartments, 2 bedroom apartments and 102 cluster flats.
Site One which is a smaller seven storey development will accommodate a further 152 beds with various room and apartment configurations. The completed development will be ready for the new student intake in 2019.
In the words of the HLM team who designed it “The 40,000sqm scheme will become a unique, high quality and vibrant student residential development, which will include student amenity spaces, a new student hub and commercial uses at street level. It is anticipated that the new development will not only contribute significantly to the on-going regeneration of Sheffield’s city centre but also generate new employment.”
The principal contractor Watkin Jones, who we will be working under is one that we have a long and close working relationship with and this project only adds to an extensive list of work that have been able to provide them over the years.
Kimpton’s Contracts Director, Ron Tierney, had this to say about the news “We have developed our relationship over the past 10 years with our client and feel that they have confidence in our ability to provide a quality product on time and within budget every time for these extremely demanding projects. Student Accommodation is an increasingly important part of our business. We are delighted with another one in our portfolio.”
