Steve Turner joins Kimpton as Estimating Manager

When we normally announce a new starter with Kimpton, we talk about what first attracted them to the business. With Steve Turner however, it’s slightly different, as Steve is actually returning to the business after a 37-year break. Back in 1984 Steve’s first job after school was as a Youth Trainee with the EA Kimpton. It was this business that was subject to the management buyout lead by Richard Kimpton, to form Kimpton Limited in 2001.

In the meantime, Steve has remained relatively local but gathered a HUGE amount of experience to bring back to the business.

Having moved to Mechair Building Services to complete an apprenticeship, Steve then joined Lockwood Technical Services, where he worked for 8 years, moving in 1997 for a ten-year spell as Estimator and Contracts Manager at Brian Buckley Ltd. Not one for too much change, he then returned to Lockwood’s as a Director for another 12-year spell and then onto Senate Mech as a Director up until recently.

Speaking to Steve, I asked him what he was looking forward to in his new role.

“In the last few roles I’ve overseen all the different aspects of the day to day issues from contract management to health and safety so it will be good to be able to concentrate more on the estimating side. The projects here at Kimpton are generally bigger and more complex, so being able to spend more time on them at tender stages will ensure we can deliver the best value for our customers.

The team too are very strong. I’ve been impressed by how well they work together and the knowledge they hold.

It will be good to get a few wins under my belt and then I can start putting my mark on how we work too”

Steve, who lives locally, is married with two daughters and two younger sons.
