High-Rise MEP services

Kimpton design, supply and install complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services for high-rise residential and hotel developments across the UK. Our dedicated High-rise Residential MEP team works with developers and main contractors on Build to Rent (BTR), Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) and hotel schemes, from Glasgow to London.

Experience you can build on

We have been delivering building services since 1963, and multi-occupancy residential work has been a core part of that for more than 20 years. In that time we have completed nearly 15,000 beds across more than 30 PBSA and BTR schemes, including mechanical services for The Àrd in Glasgow, set to become Scotland’s tallest residential building.

Our national portfolio includes BTR and PBSA schemes in Bath, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Telford, delivered for clients such as Watkin Jones Group, McAleer & Rushe and Torsion Developments.

Why high-rise is different

A tall, repetitive building multiplies every decision. A riser detail or a plant room layout is repeated floor after floor, so getting it right at design stage saves time, cost and disruption across the whole programme. High-rise schemes also bring tighter fire and life safety requirements, demanding energy targets and the logistics of working at height on busy city-centre sites.

Our team has dealt with these challenges many times. We know how to coordinate services in congested risers and ceiling voids, phase installation alongside other trades and hand over buildings that are straightforward to operate.

What we deliver

  • Mechanical services: heat pumps and low-carbon heating, domestic hot and cold water, ventilation and MVHR, air conditioning and comfort cooling to amenity and commercial spaces, and plant rooms
  • Electrical services: power and lighting, electric panel heating, fire alarm and emergency lighting, access control, CCTV and lift supplies
  • Public health: above-ground drainage and water services
  • Design and coordination: in-house design, whether you need full design and build or installation to a consultant’s design

Heat pumps are now the standard for most new residential schemes. For many contractors that is still new territory, but Kimpton has worked with heat pump technology since the 1970s.

Sectors

Build to Rent (BTR): Long-term rental homes where residents expect comfort and operators expect low running costs. Recent schemes include Signal Box Yard in Bath, Sherlock Quarter and Makers Yard in Birmingham, Central Quay in Cardiff and Conington Road in Lewisham.

Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA): High-density schemes built to fixed academic-year deadlines, where programme certainty is everything. Projects include Hollis Croft in Sheffield, Grand Central, Ducie Court in Manchester and Carlton Hill in Leeds.

Hotels: From new-build to live refurbishment, including the M&E design and installation for the 141-bedroom Travelodge on Liverpool’s waterfront and the boiler house refurbishment and riser replacement at the Tower Hotel, London, carried out while the hotel stayed open.

A nationwide service

While our head office is on the Wirral, our high-rise team works wherever our clients build. We have delivered multi-million pound MEP packages across England, Scotland and Wales, supported by an in-house electrical division and long-standing supply chain relationships.

Support after handover

Once a building is open, our planned preventative maintenance (PPM) team can keep it running, with support available 24/7, 365 days a year.
