Kimpton designed and delivered a Mitsubishi PURY VRF solution into a state of the art new build office development. The industrial chic design demanded an exceptional installation finish as well as functional superiority.
Auger appointed Kimpton for the delivery of this project based on our strong local reputation and our readiness to go the extra mile in specifying and installing the right solution to meet their ambitious standards of functionality and appearance.
Auger’s new state of the art call centre offices at Cross Lane on the Wirral were being developed to an extremely high standard. There were no ceilings in the main occupied areas, so the services were on show and needed to be finished very precisely in line with the finish of the building and its fittings. Our task was to design and deliver an air conditioning system, domestic services and all electrical services including lighting, power and data.
We presented a number of options to the client for selection almost a year before the project commencement. Since the visual appearance as well as the functional capability of the solution was critical in this project, the client took the opportunity to physically check all of the elements we recommended before fitting.
Maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the open plan office and cellular meeting rooms presented a significant challenge due to the building’s orientation and the very large sun lit windows. Our solution was built around two Mitsubishi PURY VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) heating and cooling systems with heat recovery capabilities which were installed across the ground and first floors. The systems cater for the requirements of the comfort cooling and heating to each area via a range of PEFY ducted fan coil units and PLFY 4-way blow ceiling cassette units. The array of indoor units is individually piped and wired back to a central manifold (BC controller) via high level tray work which in turn is connected to its corresponding PURY outdoor unit.
Control of the systems is achieved by localised PAR-32MAA LCD controllers which provide temperature set point adjustment, fan speed control, time clock programmes, night set back and fault diagnosis. Where an individual unit has been installed within a meeting room this is controlled by one standalone controller, however in the main open plan area on the first floor this area has been sub divided into two zones to suit the orientation of the building to offset the solar heat gains throughout the day as the sun moves around the building. Additionally, due to no secondary ceiling being installed throughout the first-floor area individual room sensors have been installed to measure the temperature at an optimum position with a view to provide more accurate and efficient control of the system.
Throughout both floors a number of Mitsubishi Lossnay ventilation units have been installed to work in tandem with the comfort cooling and heating system. The ventilation units afford heat recovery which reclaims heat from the exhaust air being passed through the internal Lossnay core. Fresh air is distributed throughout the offices via a network of galvanised spiral duct work and diffusers.
Kimpton were also responsible for the plumbing and finishing of the washroom facilities as well as the installation of a specialist light fitting to the main entrance gallery of the building.
Via supply chain partners, Kimpton were also able to manage the supply and installation of the full array of electrical services that were required for this state of the art call centre. This included all lighting, some of which was architectural, power, data, security and more.
The Kimpton team were proud of the extremely high-quality finish of the installation. The superiority of the Mitsubishi solution and the skills of our staff delivered against the demanding specification of the client.
Auger benefited from us managing the full M&E project and will continue to benefit from the seven year warranty we offer on the Mitsubishi solution via our Diamond Solutions Partner status.
