Morrisons Manufacturing Winsford PPM Contract

Morrisons Manufacturing Winsford PPM Contract

Background

The Morrisons Manufacturing site in Winsford is a scrupulously clean and tidy meat packaging operation that produces 1.4 million packs, or over 650 tonnes of beef, pork and lamb products every week.

The unit supplies seven regional distribution centres and flat-out can have as many as 25 production lines in operation. The factory is an 18,000 square foot site on 12 acres of land. There are over 600 team members who work a four-shift operation to keep things moving every single day.

Morrisons had been working with a national FM provider, that quite suddenly failed as a business.

For Morrisons there was a real threat that they would have been left without a PPM provider for the HVAC, across the entire manufacturing plant, until Kimpton stepped in.

The project

With an SLA including a one hour call-out to site and a brief to maintain all of the mechanical plant throughout the factory this could have been challenging.

At Kimpton, we have engineers spread throughout the entire Liverpool City Region, Wirral, Cheshire and North Wales, so, delivering on that promise is completely manageable for us.

We’re maintaining all of the HVAC systems throughout the factory with the hot water supply, heating and boosted cold water, all of which serve the kitchens, toilets, showers and the wash down for the production lines. There are very large boosted cold water tanks on the roof, connected to pumps as tall as our engineers, to drive it around the system.

Downtime in a factory of this scale is an expensive business. So, as part of the contract, one of our senior engineers spends a half day on site bi-weekly, to check and maintain all of the plant to ensure breakdowns are absolutely minimised, if not nearly eradicated.
