Kimpton secured a £1.8 million design and build mechanical contract for Hollis Croft, a student accommodation development in Sheffield city centre, working for principal contractor Watkin Jones.
The contract covered mechanical services across two buildings on the site: a 19 storey tower with 603 beds, in a mix of studio, one and two bed apartments plus 102 cluster flats, and a 7 storey block with a further 152 beds. Together with the rest of the 40,000 sqm scheme, the development brought nearly 1,000 beds to the site.
Designed by HLM Sheffield, the scheme was conceived as a piece of city centre regeneration, adding a student hub, amenity space and commercial units at street level alongside the residential accommodation.
Kimpton delivered the mechanical installation to have the buildings ready in time for the 2019 student intake.
The Hollis Croft contract built on a relationship between Kimpton and Watkin Jones stretching back a decade. Commenting on the award, Kimpton said:
