Back in August 2019, we were delighted to announce that we had been re-appointed by Liverpool Hope University to maintain their HVAC for a further three years. Our work continued with the ongoing maintenance of all of the HVAC plant and water hygiene management systems throughout their sites. They also had the option for a further extension of up to two years subject to performance.
So, now we have worked with Liverpool Hope University for 15 years, we have just been reappointed for a further three years, with the same option to extend for two additional years.
Kimpton have held the contract since 2009 and, at each contract renewal, there’s been some additional plant added to the mix. This time, the main changes are that Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) have been added to the Trinity Building in Aigburth to provide hot water for the student accommodation blocks. In addition, Solar PV has been added to the St Julie’s Hall accommodation, also in Aigburth, all of which is to be maintained and requires an extension of the skills needed from our team to maintain it.
For Kimpton, ASHP’s are nothing new as we have been fitting and maintaining them since the 70’s, a long time before they became popular. Solar PV is also a mainstay of the business with some very large scale installations undertaken in recent years and our own system recently extended to provide an even higher proportion of our energy from renewable sources.
Rob Brine, Key Account Manager said “I’m obviously delighted that we have been appointed as I have been looking after the account for the more than ten years and it feels like a real pat on the back for our team who have worked so hard to deliver a great service throughout the period.
The other main change this time is that there is more of an element of working with them to reduce their carbon impact. It’s always been part of our brief and amongst other little changes we have delivered along the way, we fitted Inverters on the air handling units back in around 2010 to reduce their impact. This essentially puts a brake on the fans to slow them down and reduces the power they consume.
We’re also looking with them at introducing remote monitoring for the water hygiene. This is obviously critical for the health of everyone on site but does involve a site visit each time and a relatively manual system of monitoring. Adding in the remote system would mean it’s every bit as safe, but would be easier, cheaper and quicker and save lots of commute carbon by our team
It’s this sort of proactive thinking that allows us to keep clients for many years and continue to deliver on our own carbon reduction credentials”
Liverpool Hope University has a history dating back more than 175 years and today is a modern, well equipped university spread across a number of beautiful campuses. It always feels more welcoming than some other universities and their smaller class sizes mean students get more individual attention.
