Process and Potable cold water service replacement

Process and Potable cold water service replacement

Client: Ford Motor Company
Location: Halewood site
Project: Process and Potable cold water service replacement
Value: £750k
Project Manager: Steve Bennett

Summary

Currently Ford Halewood Transmissions Ltd (FHTL) receives its potable, process, and fire-fighting water supplies from the adjacent Jaguar Land Rover facility and there is a requirement for Ford to provide their own connections for these services as soon as possible.

The total work area of the facility is 1.15m sq ft split between a large manufacturing space and the administration block which is office space.

The new supply from United Utilities, will need to cross the JLR car park, a public road and part of the Ford site to reach the desired entry point. There will be two new GRP sectional twin water tanks, with one for potable water and the other for process water.

To move the water around the site, there will be 3 x duty pump sets for potable water and 4 x duty packaged pump sets for the process water.

The network will be configured as a meshed ring main with isolation valves for all branches and connections. This will also include the installation of plant equipment such as break/storage tanks, cold water booster sets and ancillary plant equipment.

Existing process and potable water supplies will be stripped out entirely following the completion and successful commissioning and handover of the new service mains. This will allow the supply from JLR to be capped off at source.

Overall, the project covers installation of new process water supplies and associated connections including new supplier connections, metering, and all internal pipe distribution.

The challenge

The key challenge for the team is that the FHTL site mwill remain live and operational throughout the works, with working times and zones agreed with the client throughout the project to cause almost zero disruption.
